On this day, 15 October, in 1973, Dolly Parton released “Jolene” as a single, and country music history was never quite the same. ✨ Recorded at RCA Studio B in Nashville on 22 May 1973 and produced by Bob Ferguson, the song tells the story of a woman pleading with a beautiful red-haired rival not to take her man. Parton drew inspiration from two real-life encounters: a little girl whose name she loved, and a bank clerk who had flirted with her husband, Carl Dean. “Jolene” became the title track
