Meet #Camarasaurus aka CM 11338, a specimen number all sauropod lads rattle off the tongue at a moment’s notice. 🙂 Found at the Carnegie Quarry, aka Dinosaur National Monument’s famed wall, it was essentially complete, missing only a few tail vertebrae. Camarasaurus was built differently. While many Jurassic sauropods relied on long, lightweight skulls, Camarasaurus evolved a powerful, box-shaped head with strong teeth made for tough plants. Its fossils are so common that it has become a cornerstone for understanding how giant dinosaurs lived, fed, and grew.
