A Lauderhill police officer and a woman were injured in what police are calling a violent hit-and-run attack in Sunrise. Now, those in law enforcement are expressing concern. Rod Skirvin, president of the Broward Police Benevolent Association, said the officer, who has multiple injuries, could have been killed.

A Lauderhill Police officer and a pedestrian were hospitalized Tuesday evening after a hit-and-run in Sunrise, police said.

SUNRISE, Fla. – A police officer was injured while on duty in Broward County. It happened at approximately 5:45 p.m. Tuesday in the area of the 8200 block of Sunset Strip in Sunrise. According to police, the officer was conducting an investigation when he and a female pedestrian were hit by a vehicle.

CBS News Miami's Peter D'Oench reports that the police union said the officer's injuries were so severe that he's being prompted to retire.
