The first step was cleared in a new development for Lafayette Transitional Housing Center Homeless Services to build up to 80 new units off McCarty Lane.

Four women and a teenaged girl went to Walmart on the south side Tuesday afternoon after conspiring to steal from the retailer, according to police.

The proposed six-story complex by Tomish Developers would replace nine current buildings of existing housing, bringing with it 285 units.
