After a long dry spell accompanied by freezing temperatures in the Bay Area, rain is finally reentering the forecast, with an atmospheric river poised to soak the region in the coming days. Following a mostly dry January in the Bay Area, a wet weather pattern returns to the region beginning on the final day of the month.

Rain is returning this week to the Bay Area – and forecasters are expecting a “potentially major storm system."

The Lehigh Valley will likely get freezing rain overnight Thursday into Friday. The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, said up to a 10th of an inch of ice is possible. The region is under a winter weather advisory from 2 until 9 a.m. Friday.

Following Wednesday’s snowfall, another round of precipitation could douse Massachusetts in rain and possibly snow. Getting closer to Friday, National Weather Service meteorologists believe the potential for dry conditions amid a new system that day is low,
