Lukas and Hall of Famer Gary Stevens were a highly successful and respected trainer jockey combination with multiple victories together spanning over 30 years, including winning the Kentucky Derby the first time in 1988 with the filly, Winning Colors, and again in 1995 with Thunder Gulch, as well as the 2013 Preakness Stakes with Oxbow.

D. Wayne Lukas, a member of the National Racing Hall of Fame and one of horse racing's most prolific and influential trainers, died Saturday. He was 89.

Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas, who saddled four Kentucky Derby winners among his 15 winners of US Triple Crown races, has died at he age of 89, his family said Sunday.He saddled his most recent Triple Crown race winner last year with Seize the Grey in the Preakness Stakes -- his seventh Preakness triumph.
