A day after the surprising firings of longtime general manager Mike Rizzo and manager Davey Martinez, the Washington Nationals have tabbed Miguel Cairo to be the team’s interim manager.

The Washington Nationals appointed Miguel Cairo as interim manager on Monday, July 7, 2025, following a major organizational overhaul. Cairo replaces Dave Martinez, who and general manager Mike Rizzo were dismissed on Sunday.

Miguel Cairo, who has served as a Washington Nationals bench coach for the past season and a half, was named interim manager of the Major League Baseball club on Monday."Miguel is well-respected in our organization and around baseball,
