Ayo Edebiri is set to write and is in talks to star in the Barney movie at A24. The project has been in development since 2019 when it was annoucned that Mattel Films and Daniel Kaluuya's 59% Productions would be partnering with the studio on the project about the beloved childhood TV character.

Momentum is gaining on A24’s live-action Barney movie from Mattel Films and Daniel Kaluuya’s 59% Productions, as the companies have set Emmy and Golden Globe winner Ayo Edebiri to write the screenplay and also have her in talks to star.

Ayo Edebiri will write and is in talks to star in a live-action film based on children’s TV favourite Barney, for Mattel Films, A24 and Daniel Kaluuya’s 59% Productions. The film will be overseen by Kevin McKeon and Andrew Scannell for Mattel Films. Robbie Brenner will produce for Mattel Films, with A24. Kaluuya and Riley will produce for 59%.

The feature film was first announced back in October 2019 Ayo Edebiri is seeing purple! The Bear actress, 29, is in talks to join the cast of Daniel Kaluuya's upcoming live-action Barney movie and has also been tapped to write the script.
