The deadlock over finalising the next Maharashtra Chief Minister dragged on as caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde cancelled his meetings today as he's unwell, while NCP leader Ajit Pawar headed to Delhi to meet with top BJP leadership over government formation.

According to reports, Shinde was scheduled to attend a Mahayuti leaders meeting to finalise portfolio allocations. He is suffering from a throat infection and fever and did not return to his official residence, Varsha, in Mumbai. Shinde is currently staying in his native village in Satara.

Caretaker DCM Ajit Pawar announced that the Mahayuti alliance, comprising BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, will form the Maharashtra government with a BJP CM and DCMs from the other two parties. Despite a resounding victory in the assembly elections,

BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis also asserted that the Mahayuti alliance had no internal differences and that a decision on the Chief Minister would be made soon after consulting the leaders.

A day after the Mahayuti leaders' meeting with Union home minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, caretaker CM Eknath Shinde left for his village Dare Tamb in Mahabaleshwar taluka in Satara district. Sources said the BJP is working on him to get him to accept the deputy CM's post.

Eknath Shinde, Ajit Pawar, and Devendra Fadnavis, either together or individually, are expected to visit Delhi later in the evening.
