Ireland has joined South Africa’s genocide case against Israel, the International Court of Justice announced Tuesday morning.

Ireland filed a declaration of intervention Monday in support of South Africa’s genocide case against Israel in the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The decision comes after Ireland’s November Parliament motion and December Cabinet vote affirmed its stance that “genocide is being perpetrated before our eyes by Israel in Gaza.

Ireland considers a number of Articles from the 1948 Genocide Convention in its intervention in South Africa's ICJ case against Israel.

In a big setback, Ireland joins South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. ICJ in a statement said that Ireland invoked the Article 63 of the Statute of the Court,

Under ICJ procedures, both South Africa and Israel will now have the opportunity to submit written observations regarding Ireland's intervention as prescribed by Article 83 of the Rules of Court. The court's interpretation of the Genocide Convention in this case will be legally binding on all intervening parties.
