Parts of north central West Virginia could get more than a quarter inch of ice as a winter storm hits the state's mountains and Eastern Panhandle starting Wednesday.

"February is kicking off with a very stormy pattern," AccuWeather meteorologist Bernie Rayno said. "A parade of three winter storms will bring snow, ice and sleet to millions of people from the Midwest through the Northeast.”

With ice storms already rolling into the more mountainous parts of West Virginia, Gov. Patrick Morrisey has issued a State of Preparedness for all 55 West Virginia counties, which is set to last until Friday.

States to the north will see the brunt of the ice storm heading to the Midwest this week. Kentucky will see mostly rainfall and thunderstorms.

Places to the south of the Great Lakes will see the highest risk of disruptive ice from late on Wednesday into Thursday On the northern side of the storm, the precipitation will mainly be falling as snow but the most dangerous conditions are expected through portions of western Maryland,

The Thursday morning commute could be tricky and slow for some drivers in inland areas of the tri-state with the chance of ice accumulation. A wintry mix will move in after midnight and linger through the Thursday morning commute,
