BATON ROUGE – For LSU Basketball’s associate head coach David Patrick, it was a successful trip to serve as assistant coach as the Australia Boomers won the Gold Medal in the FIBA Asia Cup for a third straight time with a nail-biting 90-89 win over the People’s Republic of China on Sunday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

With its campaign at the FIBA Asia Cup in Jeddah over, Gilas now turns its attention to the six-window FIBA World Cup Asia qualifiers starting in November.

The Tall Blacks have finished fourth at the Asia Cup tournament in Saudi Arabia. New Zealand were beaten 79-73 by Iran in the play-off for bronze. Australia beat China 90-89 in the final to retain their title.
