President Donald Trump says he's directing his government to reopen and expand Alcatraz, the notorious former prison on a California island that's been closed for more than 60 years.

Legal experts told Fox News on Monday that President Trump could "absolutely" reopen Alcatraz off the California coast but could face legal challenges.

The facility on Alcatraz Island has been a tourist attraction under the National Parks Service for longer than it operated as a federal prison.

Alcatraz Island hasn't been used as a federal penitentiary since 1963. It had a capacity of roughly 300 people.
