Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is without his top running back -- on the field, at least -- as the Bills prepare for the 2025 season. James Cook is in the midst of a hold-in while angling for a new deal with Buffalo.

Josh Allen will not play in the Bills first preseason game on Saturday against the New York Giants, head coach Sean McDermott said Thursday. McDermott said that the starters will play about one quarter and backup quarterback Mitchell Trubisky will start under center.

“McLaurin became a hold-in and was placed on the physically unable to perform list with an apparent ankle injury suffered last season, though he participated in spring workouts. By reporting, McLaurin could no longer be fined $50,000 per day,” ESPN’s John Keim wrote.
