It didn't take long for former Ohio State basketball forward, Evan Mahaffey, to determine exactly where he wanted to continue his college basketball career. Just a matter of days after entering his name into the transfer portal, Mahaffey announced that he will be joining the Akron Zips basketball program via social media on Friday.

After his season at Penn State, Mahaffey transferred to Ohio State in part to be closer to home as his father, Jamie, dealt with a serious health condition that ultimately resulted in a heart transplant during the 2023-24 season. Jamie Mahaffey played college basketball at Miami (Ohio).

Friday morning, Mahaffey posted to social media that he had committed to the University of Akron for his final season of college basketball. A 6-6, 220-pound player, Mahaffey began his career at Penn State before transferring to the Buckeyes when coach Micah Shrewsberry took the same job at Notre Dame.
