PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said his meeting with President Donald Trump moved the tour “one step closer” to a deal with the Saudi-backers of rival LIV Golf. He said Wednesday reunification is the top priority.

Along with Adrian Meronk winning $4 million for his first LIV Golf title in Saudi Arabia’s capital last week, he took the first step toward a spot in the U.S. Open at Oakmont. His wire-to-wire win came three days after the USGA announced a direct path for LIV players to the U.S. Open .

There's lots of speculation over how the two tours can coexist, including president Donald Trump's involvement as he serves as a mediator between LIV and the PGA during merger negotiations. However, LIV has its own decisions to make regarding its future because several major players will see their contracts expire next summer,
