A small plane has smashed into a river surrounding New York City. At least eight people have been rescued after the seaplane had a hard-landing and nearly capsized in the East River on Sunday morning.
A teenager traveling with her grandmother filmed a video as the seaplane they were flying in crashed in the East River. They were rescued along with four other passengers, the pilot and a crew member.
The pilot who landed a crippled US Airways jetliner on the Hudson River thought there would have been "catastrophic consequences" if he tried to make it to a nearby airport, a National Transportation Safety Board official said Saturday night.
