Brazil's government will give Meta until Monday to explain the program, Solicitor General Jorge Messias said on Friday.

Meta announced it would end fact-checking on its platforms, instead moving to an X-style ‘community notes.’ But, X users say their efforts feel futile.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Thursday that social media company Meta's decision to scrap its fact-checking program in the U.S. was "extremely serious," and that he would discuss the matter in a meeting with government officials.
