The Indianapolis Colts paid Daniel Jones something between backup and starter money in free agency. Now they plan to make good on their quarterback investment, with coach Shane Steichen revealing Monday that Jones will split first-team reps with incumbent starter Anthony Richardson in spring practices.

Now, the Colts have brought in another former first-round pick under center in Daniel Jones, who has had considerably more NFL success than Richardson despite his own flaws. And Colts head coach Shane Steichen has said that beginning in OTAs,

Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson will be splitting the starting quarterback reps beginning at OTAs, and the most consistent player will be the Indianapolis Colts' regular-season starter, said head coach Shane Steichen on Monday,

Everyone knows how it will go from here. Jones inevitably will become Steichen’s Week 1 starter, barring Richardson making a dramatic leap in efficiency during this offseason competition.

Jones has his own shortcomings and is highly unlikely to ever be anything more than a low-end starter or solid backup, but superior accuracy on short passes is one clear edge he has over Richardson, along with a better track record of availability (although that hasn't exactly been a strength for Jones either).

Despite planning ahead for the potential exit of some of their starting offensive linemen, don't expect the Indianapolis Colts to be done adding to the group.
