The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that Cyclone Fengal, pronounced as Feinjal, will hit the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram close to Puducherry with a wind speed of 70-80 km per hour, gusting to 90 kmph, this afternoon.

CHENNAI: Cyclone Fengal, currently about 110 km from Chennai, has been steadily advancing towards the Tamil Nadu coast, with weather models suggesting its landfall between Marakkanam and Mahabalipuram late tonight or in the early hours of December 1.

Over 22 flights, including departures and arrivals, were cancelled since Saturday morning, while Indigo closed its operations even before the airport management took a call to suspend its functions.
