A drone has struck a firefighting aircraft battling the blazes ravaging Los Angeles County, prompting the Federal Aviation Administration to launch an investigation into the incident

An aircraft fighting to put out the Palisades Fire over Los Angeles hit a drone in midair on Thursday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The Palisades Fire broke out on Jan. 6, in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles,

Palisades Fire initially started 10:30 a.m. Jan. 7 in Los Angeles County. It has burned 19,978 acres after being active for two days. A crew of 3,073 firefighters has been working on site and they managed to contain 6% of the fire by Thursday evening. The blaze's cause remains under investigation.

Though the Palisades Fire continues to rage, currently estimated to have consumed nearly 20,000 acres, destroyed over 5,000 structures and caused at least two deaths, residents are beginning to return to their fire-stricken neighborhoods.

The Getty Villa activated its emergency operations center at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, and within two hours, the fast-moving blaze had reached the grounds. Here's how the staff, museum and precious art were kept safe.
