Spotify is getting support for Google’s Gemini Extensions, which will allow users to search for and play music using the generative AI assistant with natural language requests. The extension was first spotted in the code of the Google app in June, and now it’s rolling out to compatible Android devices, as reported by 9to5Google.

Google has started rolling out its Spotify extension for Gemini users on Android. Under the "Play & Search" moniker, users can ask Gemini to discover music based on artist, song title, playlist, or lyrics.

Setup requires granting Google access to Spotify and having a Premium subscription for some features to work. The extension is only available in English on the main Gemini app, not on Gemini in Messages or the web or iPhone.

Following WhatsApp, the second third-party Gemini Extension is Spotify. The “play & search” functionality is similar to YouTube Music.
