The San Francisco 49ers' bank-breaking extension for quarterback Brock Purdy is a bargain even at $265 million, writes SFGATE columnist Jake Hutchinson.

For all the paydays and raises and generational money this deal provides, it, in many ways, also represents a compromise — one that NFL quarterback negotiations of late seem rarely to strike.

Purdy was previously signed through the 2025 season on his four-year, $3.7 million rookie contract. While he was severely underpaid given his overall production during his first contract, he said after the 2024 campaign that he just wanted to come to terms on a new deal relatively quickly.
