Climbers begin at White River Campground and ascend the Sunset Ridge on the mountain's west side. The lightly traveled route provides spectacular sunset views from high-altitude campsites.
Asahidake, also known as Mount Nasu Hotaka, is the steepest peak in the Nasu mountain range and is popular among mountain climbers.
