The agreements are part of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement “task force model” program that DeSantis said would lead to “street-level” enforcement operations, adding that the plan calls for intensive training.
Agreements allow state law enforcement to perform immigration officer functions, including removing incarcerated criminal foreign nationals.
The program, 287(g), allows ICE to delegate authority to both state and local law enforcement to perform immigration officer functions under ICE’s direction.
