The Bruins released an update on Charlie McAvoy Wednesday, noting that the defenseman remains hospitalized due to several injuries.

For Charlie McAvoy, the timing of his injury had to be devastating. The Bruins defenseman was playing the best hockey of his season and was a key part of Team USA, which is about to play for the championship of the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off.

Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy is in a Boston hospital after sustaining an upper-body injury during a recent 4 Nations game, the team said Tuesday.

"He was diagnosed as having an infection in his right shoulder, as well as a significant injury to his (acromioclavicular) joint," the team said.

Charlie McAvoy, who suffered a significant AC joint injury and is dealing with an infection in his right shoulder, won’t play in Boston’s first game back from the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off. The defenseman was injured during Team USA’s first game against Team Finland, and remains at Massachusetts General Hospital.
