Ranch workers in Point Reyes National Seashore, who are destined to lose their jobs and homes within a year following a new land management plan by the National Park Service, received some hope for relief from the Marin County Board of Supervisors Tuesday.

Marin County may declare a "shelter crisis" to fast-track emergency housing on county land, bypassing zoning laws for 3 years.

An estimated 90 to 100 farmworkers and tenants, many of the former who have worked the land for more than three decades, will lose housing as a result of the Jan. 8 landmark deal to buy out all but two of the national seashore’s leased ranches.

The Marin County Board of Supervisors will vote tomorrow on whether to declare a three-year "shelter crisis" to help reduce homelessness.
