PSG had an impressive run in the last campaign, where they claimed the Ligue 1 title and their first-ever Champions League title, and the French side exhibited the same stride in the Club World Cup. They won five out of their six matches in the competition prior to the final.

On Sunday, the president attended the Club World Cup final award ceremony after Chelsea beat PSG, 3-0. He joined FIFA President Gianni Infantino on the pitch at MetLife Stadium, where fans audibly booed before he stood and waved to the crowd.

The tournament is bankrolled by American and Middle Eastern investment; as is football globally. Where it goes from here is anyone's guess.
