The Auburn Tigers built a double-digit lead and never really let the North Carolina Tar Heels back in the game as they posted an 85-72 win in the Maui Invitational semifinals Thursday night.

Not only does UNC have a brief history in the Maui Invitational, but a successful one, too. North Carolina has four titles in the highly-anticipated tournament, just behind five from archrival Duke. The Tar Heels have eight appearances in the Maui, tied with Arizona and Kansas for most all-time.

For many, the Maui Invitational is a guiding measure for college basketball fans and analysts to determine which of the field's eight teams have the ingredients to make the Final Four and perhaps win the national championship.
