D. Wayne Lukas, a Hall of Fame horse trainer who was second all time with 15 Triple Crown race wins, has died at the age of 89.

"Wayne Lukas reinvented the game," Lanny Kohnhorst, the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association's Director of Horsemen's Relations. "Wayne produced champions, from Grade 1 winners to stallion prospects to next generation of trainers, and defined American Thoroughbred racing."

D. Wayne Lukas, the Hall of Famer who became one of the most accomplished horse trainers with seven Preakness, four Kentucky Derby and four Belmont Stakes wins, has died. He was 89.
