What Mets’ Frankie Montas signing means for Sean Manaea and Luis Severino
On Sunday, the Mets signed former Yankees starter Frankie Montas to a two-year, $34 million contract. Like Manaea’s deal last season, the contract, which will pay him $17 million each season, includes a player opt-out for the second year of the agreement.

To that point, by the measure of ERA+, which takes into account ballpark and other league factors, Montas has been a below-average starter in recent years. His last above-average season was 2022 in Oakland, when his 116 ERA+ was above the league-average 100.
Frankie Montas, at this point, looks to join a rotation that includes Senga, David Peterson, Tylor Megill and Paul Blackburn.
