The Yankees utilityman, who broke his ankle in a gruesome play at the plate Monday night, flew back home on Tuesday and then saw the first ankle specialist on Wednesday morning.

New York Yankees infielder Oswaldo Cabrera suffered what the team later said was a fractured ankle during the club's 11-5 win over the Seattle Mariners on Monday night.

The New York Yankees' Monday night win over the Seattle Mariners was overshadowed by the gruesome injury to Oswaldo Cabrera. After scoring a run in the top of the ninth inning, Cabrera writhed in pain and proceeded to be taken off the field via an ambulance in a scary sight in Seattle.

“It made me sick to my stomach, to be honest,” second-year Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told Newsday from his Citi Field office early Tuesday afternoon. “You hate to see that happen to anyone but knowing the kid, how much joy he brings every day, how much he cares, the personality, it just breaks your heart.”
