Inside-information about Franco Colapinto crashing his Alpine during testing has been claimed. Alpine’s busy week began when they informed Jack Doohan shortly after the F1 Miami Grand Prix that he would be replaced. Reserve driver Colapinto has been called up to their race car for the next five races before another team evaluation.

Colapinto’s arrival came after Alpine opted to sideline Jack Doohan, just seven races into his F1 career. The Australian rookie suffered costly crashes in Melbourne, Japan and most recently in Miami, triggering Briatore to make a change.

After months of rumors swirling around Alpine, the team announced Wednesday that Franco Colapinto will replace Jack Doohan at the team starting at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, Italy, on May 18.
