WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. President Donald Trump held off Monday on his tariff threats against Mexico for one month of further negotiations after Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum agreed to send 10,000 members of her country’s national guard to the border to address drug trafficking.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and US President Donald Trump held their second phone call late this afternoon, on the eve of 25% tariffs imposed on Canadian imports to the United States. President Trump said both calls “went well” today with the Prime Minister.

Donald Trump said he had reached a deal with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to suspend 25% tariffs for one month.

The Canadian prime minister said the country has a $1.3 billion border plan and 10,000 "frontline personnel" protecting the border.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday in a social media post that the United States had agreed to pause threatened tariffs for “at least 30 days.” The announcement followed two phone calls with President Donald Trump on Monday and came after the United States and Mexico reached a similar agreement.
