Wind turbine maker Vestas has said 600 workers at its Isle of Wight factory are at risk of redundancy.Employees at the Newport plant have been told at least half of its manufacturing operation will be cut amid changing demand for turbine blades.

Vestas Wind Systems A/S will eliminate about 300 roles at a factory in the UK as the Danish wind turbine maker overhauls the site to produce onshore machines.

Denmark's Vestas said on Wednesday it will restructure its factory on Britain's Isle of Wight to manufacture blades for onshore rather than for offshore wind power, and that it would cut the number of jobs.
