Late Thursday evening, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration increased the warning to a higher severity, communicated as a strong G3 warning, for four hours, then dropped the status back down to a moderate G2 early Friday morning.

At 5:44 p.m. on Wednesday, the NWS Raleigh NC issued a severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 6:45 p.m. for Sampson County.
