Prosecutors have been ordered to respond to the president-elect’s request by Thursday morning, suggesting the court could rule before Friday’s scheduled sentencing.

President-elect Donald Trump filed an urgent appeal on Wednesday with the Supreme Court to postpone his sentencing in a criminal case involving hush money payments. The sentencing, set for Friday, stems from 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a payment made during the 2016 presidential campaign.

The president-elect is asking the Supreme Court to halt the sentencing after both Judge Juan Merchan and an appeals court refused.
