Charlie McAvoy was late to turn his TV on Friday. After dinner he wanted to see Ilia Malinin’s Olympics figure skating performance. But by the time the Bruins defenseman got situated, he was seconds too late.

Ilia Malinin of the U.S. was heavily favored for men's figure skating gold, but a series of falls and downgraded jumps landed him in eighth place.

McAvoy sees what happened to Ilia Malinin as a wake-up call for Team USA. "We know we have to bring our best every single day," he said.
