The advisory was the response to a Friday fuel tanker crash at Indian Creek Basin. The creek feeds into Elwha River, the city’s main potable water source.

Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson on Sunday visited near the site of a tanker truck crash that spilled thousands of gallons of fuel into a tributary of the Elwha River near Port Angeles. His visit came two days after the fuel truck failed to negotiate a turn on Highway 101,

The alert from the Sheriff’s Office instructed Port Angeles utility customers to not drink tap water. It said to use only bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, washing dishes, making ice and food preparation until further notice. That also applies to pets, the alert said.
