The Washington Nationals appointed Miguel Cairo as interim manager on Monday, July 7, 2025, following a major organizational overhaul. Cairo replaces Dave Martinez, who and general manager Mike Rizzo were dismissed on Sunday.

A day after the surprising firings of longtime general manager Mike Rizzo and manager Davey Martinez, the Washington Nationals have tabbed Miguel Cairo to be the team’s interim manager.

Miguel Cairo, who played for nine teams over 17 MLB seasons before entering coaching, has been selected as the interim manager of the Nationals.
