Giants, Matt Chapman

Losing Matt Chapman to the injured list for the second time this season hurt, but the Giants could at least take some solace in knowing that they had another natural third baseman -- Casey Schmitt \-\- who could replace him in the interim.
In the Giants' tough loss to the Rays at home on Friday, the only good news is X-rays came back negative for both Giants infielders.
Roupp, 26, was placed on the injured list on July 25 (retroactive to July 23) with right elbow inflammation after pitching five shutout innings against the Braves in Atlanta. The Giants said they believed Roupp’s injury was on the minor side, and Roupp only needed one rehab start with Triple-A Sacramento (three innings, two runs) before returning.
The losing streak has hit six games. The Giants are not only 59-63, but they’ve lost 14 of their last 15 games at home — something that hasn’t been done since 1901. The third NL wild card spot remains open as the New York Mets continue to free-fall, but San Francisco remains five games back as the losses pile up.
BOTTOM LINE: The San Francisco Giants look to stop their six-game home slide with a win against the Tampa Bay Rays. San Francisco has a 29-32 record at home and a 59-63 record overall. The Giants have a 26-44 record in games when they have given up at least one home run.
Schmitt left the 7-6 loss in the eighth inning after a first-pitch fastball from Rays reliever Edwin Uceta ran inside and hit him on his right forearm. He was forced to miss two weeks before the All-Star break after a similar pitch from the Marlins’ Caleb Faucher got him on his left wrist.

SB Nation on MSNGiants activate Landen Roupp and Keaton Winn, place Matt Chapman on IL and Ryan Walker on leave
Joining Roupp on the shuttle from Sacramento is fellow righty Keaton Winn, who joins the MLB squad for the first time this year. Winn lost three months of the season on the IL, and is finally looking healthy. He’s been working in relief while he gets back up to speed, and will continue that role in San Francisco.
