The cities adopted new flags this week showing support for LGBTQ+ people in defiance of their states’ Republican-controlled legislatures.

The Democratic controlled cities of Salt Lake City and Boise adopted new city flags this week that show support for LGBTQ+ people in defiance of new laws passed by their states’ Republican-controlled Legislatures that banned the traditional rainbow pride flags at schools and government buildings.

The city also designated a National Donate Life Month banner as an official flag, meaning Boise now has three official flags. The resolution itself says an official flag is any one the mayor declares as official. Some council members focused on the economic and emotional benefits of having a pro-LGBTQ+ city.
