As many as 3,000 students are expected to miss school on Wednesday in protest of the district's state-appointed board of managers and superintendent.

HOUSTON — In a matter of days, desks at many Houston ISD schools are expected to be empty as part of a protest. Parents and educational organizations are planning what they're calling a "sick-out" where students are expected to stay home instead of go to class.

The advocacy group Community Voices for Public Education is asking students to stay home Wednesday to protest Houston ISD's state-appointed Superintendent Mike Miles' policies, according to a Monday statement by the group.
