Palestinian protesters as Hamas turns on Palestinians in Gaza, criticizing absent campus activists who once rallied against Israel.

Hamas is reasserting control of parts of Gaza not occupied by Israeli forces as the ceasefire takes hold – amid continuing uncertainty about security in the territory if the group is disarmed.

President Donald Trump is warning Hamas that “we will have no choice but to go in and kill them” if internal bloodshed persists in Gaza.

Hamas allegedly did not return all of the hostages within the originally mandated timeframe, leading Trump on Wednesday to say he would authorize Israeli forces to return to the streets of Gaza if Hamas did not release all of the hostages, living and deceased.

The current truce has been marked by flashes of violence in Gaza, including a public killing, as Hamas seeks to regain control over the enclave.

Hamas has now handed over the remains of 12 of the 28 dead hostages in Gaza, a key step in the week-old ceasefire process meant to end two years of war. The militant group says devastation and Israeli military control of certain areas of the Gaza Strip have slowed the handover.

The Israeli military said it had fired at a "suspicious vehicle" it said had crossed the line demarcating the area occupied by its forces.
