Gary Lineker has revealed the mistake he made during his final Match Of The Day sign-off on Saturday, 24 May, before leaving the BBC. The former England international, 64, told his The Rest is Football co-hosts Micah Richards and Alan Shearer how he struggled to hold back tears during a montage of personal messages.

Lineker, 64, has presented Match of the Day since 1999, but will now leave the corporation altogether following Sunday's show.
