Cairo — Palestinian officials say Fatah and Hamas are closing in on an agreement to appoint a committee of politically independent technocrats to administer the Gaza Strip after the war. It would effectively end Hamas' rule and could help advance ceasefire talks with Israel.
Hamas and Fatah agree on postwar Gaza administration
Fatah’s delegation was headed by central committee member Azzam al-Ahmad, who is in charge of the party’s Gaza file. The Hamas team was led by politburo deputy chief Khalil al-Hayya who is also on the five-man group that succeeded Yahya Sinwar after he was assassinated by Israel in October.
Prior to October 7, Hamas was merely the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, explained PA leader Jibril Rajoub.
