David Beckham has been hospitalized in Los Angeles for surgery on an old wrist injury — one that dates back over two decades. The former football star, now 50, had been experiencing persistent discomfort linked to a metal pin implanted after a fracture he suffered during an England match in 2003.

Beckham underwent surgery to repair a wrist fracture sustained 22 years ago during a 2003 friendly match versus South Africa, according to the Irish Star — adding that a recent X-ray showed a screw was stuck in his forearm from that original surgery and it didn’t dissolve properly.
