Colorado’s postseason got off to a bang with a chaotic 7-6 loss to the Jets. While the Avalanche may have been in the game until the final buzzer, that opening game raised quite a few red flags.
While the Avalanche were clearly getting better on paper, the postseason results plateaued. From 2019 to 2021, Colorado was eliminated in the second round of the postseason three straight times.
They allowed 252, tied for 16th. Even if this were a “normal” start to a season, where Colorado had all its players available, the Avalanche would be focused on getting better at goal prevention.
Colorado just has to hope that tweaks to its supporting cast can help it move further than last year’s first-round exit. The Avalanche earned a reputation of being a top team in the league.
