Austria's first three-party coalition since the aftermath of World War Two took office on Monday, ending the country's longest-ever wait for a new government and keeping the Russia-friendly, far-right Freedom Party (FPO) out of power.

Austria’s new government has taken office after a long, five-month wait for a new administration. Christian Stocker took over as chancellor at the head of a previously untried three-party coalition on Monday.

Three Austrian mainstream parties said they had come to an agreement, elbowing aside the far-right group that had won the country’s election.
