An electric vehicle battery company will permanently close two of its Michigan plants in April, laying off 188 workers. Akasol, a German company that was acquired by BorgWarner in 2022, filed a notice with the state of Michigan on Feb. 11 announcing plans to close two of its plants in Hazel Park and Warren.

According to a WARN notice to the state from Akasol Inc., a subsidiary of Auburn Hills-based BorgWarner, the automotive supplier's sites in Hazel Park and Warren will close permanently and 188 employees will lose their jobs between April 14 and July.
